May 2026 Season Summary

May 2026 Summary:

May was unseasonable warm compared to last year and thus many farms who usually start to have ripe truffle at this time were a little bit delayed. The hunts were mostly clean up hunts to get rid of any surface damaged truffles, there were some ripe truffles but not as many as last year at this time.

We preformed 5 hunts in the last week of May visiting 4 different farms. We found 20.7kg of truffle over those hunts.

The biggest culprit were insects causing damage on surface truffles and causing water is pool inside the truffle and rotting it. This sometimes cannot be helped but keeping the insects (snails, slugs, centipedes, slaters) numbers down can help.

More information regarding pests and disease of truffles and truffle trees can be found free from the Australian Truffle Industry Association. An association I would highly recommend joining.
